Tomas Jirku

Tomas Jirku is one of the most accomplished techno producers in the Northwest and is one of the many reasons why Vancouver is one of the most vibrant cities to find techno on the West Coast to date. Originally of Czech birth, Tomas Jirku moved with his family from the Czech republic to Toronto in the 90s while much of Eastern Europe was under communist control. From the mid to late 00s Tomas soon found himself as one of the leading techno artists in the Toronto scene, then he eventually left Toronto to join a burgeoning electronic music scene in Vancouver in the 10s. Tomas’ earliest musical influences come from a diverse range, coming from acid house, to dutch acid, electro, to dub techno, to IDM, to straight up bangin’ techno.  As a visual artist, Tomas has a strong education in the visual arts with a equally diverse upbringing including, fine art, design, graffiti culture, and landscape photography, which have all lent their influences to his musical work.

Tomas started his electronic music journey in 1999, and soon found himself being signed to Force Inc after his live performance in MUTEK in 2000. Which eventually led towards releases on Traum Scallplatten, Klang Electronic, and Audio.NL among many more in the decade.  Initially Tomas’ style took a path towards harder techno then eventually leaned more towards, dub techno,  minimal techno, deep techno and IDM in the 00’s,  In the past few years Tomas has been pulling together all his influences to start returning to deep and stronger intelligent realms of techno and electro on West Coast labels such as Vancouver’s Subspec, Rennie Foster’s RF Music, and Seattle’s Innerflight.
